Red-shouldered Hawk on Route 5

Spotted this hawk on a light post across Route 5 from the KMart plaza on the rainy afternoon of October 4. It was 5:23 p.m.

I’m 99% sure this a Red-shouldered Hawk, but I’ll admit that outside of Red Tails my hawk identification skills aren’t so sharp.

They are hard to tell on sight when not in flight. I saw a lot of Broad Shouldered Hawks this summer that I originally thought were red tailed or red shouldered but the high pitched whistle has led me to believe they were broad shouldered. nice blog.
